‘to make sound come alive’ concept space & experiment for music festival – concrete & grass, shanghai 2016:

Interdisciplinary collaboration, development of 5 installations for music festival concept space. Artists collaborated to conceptualise and build an interactive installation that would “make sound come alive”, through a facilitated workshop/jam. 5 interdisciplinary groups of 3 artists were directed through a series of 6 experiments.

“what is sound to you and how would you make it come alive?”

16 artists (designers, filmmakers, architects, performers, game designers, writers) took this 8-hr challenge, a collaborative game within which they created a new language-story-space around sound. Resulting in a 6-stage workshop, an exhibition of videos, drawings, photos and audio recordings and the final installation from these collaborations – inspired by vibrations, deaf dancers, triggered emotions, mechanics and the body

[UNTITLED] by GROUP 1: Celia-Mahon Heap + Jing Jin + Wang Rou
results from a merging of architecture, sculpture and new media arts, a trip to the construction market, hours of drilling, hammering, testing of lights and throwing in some string theory and pre-recorded samples of machinery… a haunting installation which they invite each visitor to name after their experience…
DIALOGUE CHARACTER by GROUP 2: Anneliese Charek + Gary Zhexi Zhang + Leah Churchill
brought together performance and programming in a non-human tactile body that you can touch, move and make sounds with, the auditory conversation becomes the story and you become one of the characters
CORPORATE GRIME by GROUP 3: Agnes Cameron + Katy Roseland + Mike Ren
is a dark, comedic play on how we can never escape from the grips of work… this trio of game designers, cybernetic and new media artists asks you to start by taking off your shoes, immersing yourself in their piece and requesting that you stay in for as long as you can…
